1. Reduces Stress Level
When you lack sleep, you’d like to have excess cortisol in the body. Cortisol is known as the stress hormone, which helps us to deal with a fight or quick responses. But excess of them decreases levels of growth hormone and testosterone, which can lead ailment such as diabetes and heart disease. When you have a sleep or daytime nap, growth hormones released and it boosts your immune system and reduces stress and anxiety. Napping gives your brain a rest and a chance to heal.
2. Restores Alertness
A short nap restores your alertness and improves motor performance. National Sleep Foundation reports that taking an ideal length of nap enhances motor skills and attention which is about 20 minutes. When you are alert, you can decide things and can be confident.
3. Improves Mood
Napping is a natural way to revive your energy. What regulates our mood is serotonin and napping promotes producing serotonin. It gives a sense of contentment and well-being. Killing stress and gaining happiness is two sides of the same coin.
4. Increases Productivity
We know by experience that we are less productive when we lack of sleep. We try to take it back to working harder, longer, but in the long run, it’s not a smart strategy. Taking a nap prevents burnout and reverses information overload. Hence, we are more productive if we allow ourselves to have even 20 minutes a day for napping.
5. Enhances Creativity
The mind will appreciate you for taking a nap. Napping can boost cognitive processing, improve memory recall and generally clear out the cobwebs.
It also heightens your sensory perception which means food tastes better and the music sounds better. You come up with new ideas since napping looses up the web of ideas in your head and putting disparate insights together.
The ideal length of napping time for enhanced creativity is 90 minutes, which is REM sleep according to the National Sleep Foundation.
We all know the quality sleep matter and that is something we all crave.
